Sarah: We all really love the work we do and believe in the resilience of our clients. Our staff comprises of trauma experts that work with a variety of different therapy modalities.
Jenny: Everyone has something personal about themselves and their experiences that motivates them to do their work to the best of their ability. The team is passionate about the work we do for all different reasons which I believe is what makes us unique.
Alyssa: Our staff truly cares about the well being of our clients. We all enjoy being able to help and make a difference in people’s lives. Most of our staff members have been through unique experiences which have positively influenced their ability to help others and to understand what others are going through.
2. What would you say to someone hesitant to use therapy?
Sarah: If you’re hesitant give it a try. Therapy really should be viewed like your yearly physical checkup, but for the mind. Also, it should not be viewed as a luxury, but rather a necessity because mental health and well-being should be prioritized.
Jenny: Nothing bad can come from trying therapy. Worst case scenario, you realize it is not for you. It’s something you don’t realize you need or want until you try it. If you are dedicated to taking care of yourself mentally, you should try therapy.
Alyssa: Try not to think about the negatives of what could happen and instead think of the potential benefits that could result from it. It can be difficult to make changes within your life or to step outside of your comfort zone, but oftentimes does this can be really helpful. If you’re nervous or worried about going to therapy, try asking someone to walk with you there, wait for you in the lobby, or to be with you before you go so that you can get the support you need in when making this big step.
3. Have you struggled with mental health yourself?
Sarah: I currently have many responsibilities since I am a wife, mother of a 5 and 4 year old, I work full time at JRM&A, and I am currently completing graduate school. I am very busy oftentimes and I feel stress and anxiety from time to time like most people. I have sought therapy in the past and the only regret I ever had was that I wish I would have gone earlier!
Jenny: I have been struggling with anxiety since before I even realized I had it. Personal hardships in my family led me to seek help through therapy when I felt I was not in control of anything happening around me. My anxiety has taught me more about myself, and therapy helped me get to the point where I could recognize my emotions and find ways to be more okay with things happening around me that were out of my control.
Alyssa: I began to struggle with anxiety while playing soccer in college. I like to have a set schedule and be in control of things and being on a college soccer team often made it difficult to do that. The schedule changes, new practices or trips added to my schedule, and not having enough time to do my homework were things that would frequently trigger my anxiety. I found that talking to others was really helpful for me instead of trying to keep everything inside!

Since day one, I’ve also enjoyed the fact that me and all the other team members are so passionate about the work we do.
